TITLE: “Integrating Visualisation of Unreferenced Genomes”
The Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC) is a research institute focused on the application of state of the art genomics and bioinformatics to advance plant, animal and microbial research to promote a sustainable bioeconomy. TGAC is a hub for innovative bioinformatics founded on research, analysis and interpretation of multiple, complex data sets. Eagle Genomics Ltd., the UK’s leading bioinformatics cloud consultancy business, is partnering with TGAC in an exciting PhD training opportunity due to begin in October 2014. Together, these two organisations will train the successful candidate in diverse, project-enhancing skills such as data-driven knowledge discovery in bioinformatics and business consultancy. Within the project, the student will have the opportunity to develop a set of BioJS visualisation components for visualisation of unreferenced genomes and to develop new computational tools for genome/trait association, which will play a key role in developing the BioJS project. Opportunities also exist to collaborate with key project stakeholders, such as the European Bioinformatics Institute.
Applicants with a background in computer science and with an interest in genomics are particularly encouraged to apply.
